Research Into Newspaper Advertisements

As I have to produce a newspaper advert for our documentary, I researched current newspaper advertisements to see the aspects that make them noticeable and attractive to the audience.
Targeting the audience is extremely important in promoting a media product, without an audience there is no market for the particular product. Newspapers are an excellent method of displaying information or passing a specific message across to gain support from the audience.

The headline of any advert really is the most important part. The readers must be engaged to read on/watch the film being promoted etc.
Headlines can be broken down roughly into three types:

Self interest
By using lots of "you"s and "your"s, you are talking directly to the reader.

News
Be specific. Specific information can entice readers even more by shocking them with figures for example. Avoid using capital letters throughout long headlines.

Curiosity
Try and arouse someone's curiosity with unanswered questions for example or create a challenge.

Font
The headline needs to be in an easy to read font such as 'Arial'. Making the font bold also helps to make it noticable.

In addition, to create a good advertisement it needs to include visual impact such as photos, white space, a distinctive border, angles, and any other aspects it takes to stand out on the page. The newspaper advertising must be distinctive and unusual to display a contrast with the other possible ads in the newspaper. Establishing something that is unique and distinctive is the best way to get the desired response.

My Role

My role in the group is the Music and Sound operator. My role is a huge responsibilty and is very important in making our documentary 'Fashion Tribes' effective and watchable. The sound such as dialogue must be clear throughout for the viewers enjoyment and to maintain their attention. Music must be included in appropriate places to compliment the content. The use of a microphone and headphones are necessary for me to obtain the best results.
